Senior High Youth Mission Trip
High school students in our parish will be participating in a youth mission project from July 6-14, 2013, traveling to West Virginia to work on home repairs for those in need through the Appalachia Service ProjectSM (ASP).
In the Appalachian region served by ASP one in every four residents lives below the poverty line, and over 50,000 households live on less than $10,000 per year. On a daily basis, families need to make tough choices between food, clothing and medical supplies. Often home repairs fall low on their list of priorities. That’s where ASP and our Senior High Youth Mission Team come in to help. We'll install insulation, repair porches, and reinforce foundations. But ASP is more than just a building program - forging friendships is as important as swinging hammers. We'll get to know the families we're serving, and we'll come home closer as a church family. To learn more about ASP, visit www.ASPHome.org.
The Senior High Youth Mission Team will fundraising throughout the year to cover the expenses associated with the trip. We will prepare for our work in Appalachia by serving as a team on a day-long home repair project through Rebuilding Together. We also participate in Bible studies, sensitivity training and construction training sessions to ensure that the work we perform is done right and will have a lasting impact.
We need your help to make a lasting dent in Appalachian poverty. Here’s what you can do:
